As an artist

I go by the pseudonym “Mad Run” — inspired by the music of Elephant Man’s song “Crazy Hype” and re-purposed as a dance for freedom. As an artist, I constantly seek inspiration from those who have bravely centered their stories on Black Liberation. From the powerful words of Audre Lorde, who spoke of the importance of rest as a form of resistance, to the visionary works of Octavia Butler, who brought Black characters to the forefront of science-fiction storytelling, and the revolutionary artistry of Donald Glover, who challenges social narratives with his bold and innovative presentations of Black history and culture - I am continually moved by the work of these Black artists.

My latest project, Greenwood 2050, is a direct result of my conversations with past and present residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through their inspiring stories, interviews, and experiences, I was struck by their unwavering belief in future opportunities, even in the face of past injustices. Their resilience and determination have served as a driving force behind my artistic vision, and I am excited to share their stories through my work.

As an artist, I am proud to draw from the rich legacies of Black and Queer creators who have paved the way for future generations. Through my art, I honor their legacy by pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo while shedding light on stories and experiences that have been too often overlooked.
